Worthy’s mother, Nicky Jones, was at Arrowhead Stadium to cheer on her 21-year-old son and his team as they battled the Saints in a primetime matchup on October 7.
But this game was no ordinary night for Jones, as she celebrated her birthday while watching her son play in the NFL. During the game, ESPN’s Monday Night Football sideline reporter Lisa Salters shed light on the special bond between Worthy and his mother, highlighting just how much Nicky Jones means to her son. “Xavier Worthy says his mom Nicky is his best friend,” Salters explained. “He says that she had him when she was 18; so she’s like really his sister. He said, ‘Our relationship is really close. She’s meant the world to me. She’s just been there for me every step of the way. We have that special bond. Talk all the time.’”
Worthy’s impressive performance was just one of the many highlights in his breakout rookie season. After being selected in the NFL Draft this past April, the young wide receiver quickly made waves with his blazing speed, posting a record-breaking 40-yard dash time of 4.21 seconds at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine.
