New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, not quarterback Aaron Rodgers or anyone else in the building, was responsible for Tuesday’s firing of head coach Robert Saleh.
In a press conference, he emphasized: “The change that I made, I believe will bring new energy and positivity that will lead to more wins. Starting now.”
Johnson also said that he spoke with Rodgers on Monday night. However, he claimed the pair did not discuss Saleh’s job status.
FS1 host Colin Cowherd didn’t mince his words when discussing if he believed Johnson and Rodgers truly did not discuss the decision to fire Saleh in their conversation.
Bill Belichick comments on New York Jets hint how he’d feel about replacing Robert Saleh
“Get a load of this nonsense,” Cowherd said on his show The Herd. “Woody Johnson said he spoke to Aaron Rodgers last night, but they didn’t talk about the firing at all…what a bunch of hooey.”
In response to Ian Rapaport of NFL Network’s tweet, many Jets fans took to the comment section to express their skepticism towards Johnson’s statement.
“Totally believable. What would make Woody Johnson bring up firing the head coach to the franchise quarterback the night before it happens? I’m sure they discussed their favorite mafia movies and the recent weather. Nothing important,” said one fan.

“Speaking to Aaron Rodgers the night before but not mentioning the fact that he’s going to fire his head coach is totally believable,” added another. One Jets fan simply posted the Will Ferrell GIF from Anchorman where he says “I don’t believe you.” “Spoke with the leader of the team before firing him but that didn’t have an impact on the decision lol ok,” posted another fan.
Saleh’s Jets lost 23-17 to the Minnesota Vikings in London on Sunday to drop the team to a 2-3 record, Overall, he will finish with a 20-26 record in three-and-a-half years as the main man for Gang Green.
Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbreich will serve as the team’s interim head coach. Johnson released a longer statement through the team’s social accounts this morning to confirm the switch.

This was not an easy decision, but we are not where we should be given our expectations, and I believe now is the best time for us to move in a different direction. Jeff Ulbrich will serve as our Interim Head Coach for the remainder of the season.
“He is a tough coach who has the respect of the coaches and players on this team. I believe he along with the coaches on this staff can get the most out of our talented team and attain the goals we established this offseason.”
