Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has clarified his heated “deez nuts” confrontation with a reporter Sunday following their 30-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium in California.
Defeat sees the Cowboys become a losing side with three wins from seven, trailing the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders in the NFC East. The latest loss will have been particularly hard for the Cowboys to take as they gave up three touchdowns in the third quarter.
A reporter had post-match criticism for Diggs when it came to his effort level on a George Kittle interception that put the Niners on the goal line.

Diggs responded by asking the reporter if that’s really what he got from that play, and told him: “You don’t know football.” The reporter said they could talk more, to which Diggs walked off, saying: “We can talk about deez nuts” a nod to an internet-famous meme.
The athlete reflected on the “unnecessary” confrontation when speaking on “The Edge with Micah Parsons.”
He said: “I felt he was trying to use my name for clicks. After the game, I just happened to see it. I looked, I clicked on it, and saw who it was. And I was like, ‘Oh, he right here. I just saw you.’ So, I went up to him and I just spoke how I felt.”
Diggs said he was feeling a lot of emotions because the team had just come out of the game, and had lost. “I’m a competitor. I wanted to win. So there was a lot of emotions and I let my emotions get the best of me.”
Regardless, Diggs said the reporter remained in the wrong. “It doesn’t make it right for anybody to be saying anything, or trying to throw dirt on your name, make it seem like you’re doing a bad job.
“I felt like I played my hardest game yesterday. I did everything I could. I was tackling, doing everything I could to help my team win. And for him to throw dirt on my name didn’t sit right with me because [he’s] completely wrong.”
He finished: “If I was wrong, gave up a play, I can’t say nothing. I have to take that on the chin. You saying anything, I’m not going to take that. I’m not going to allow you to try to make me seem I’m the problem. That’s not cool.”
The Cowboys return to the field Sunday for a game against Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
