Travis Kelce made Kansas City Chiefs history by hauling in a franchise-record 77th touchdown in the Christmas Day win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
On Wednesday, the Chiefs clinched the first seed in the AFC by dominating the Steelers and securing a 29-10 victory. Patrick Mahomes torched the vaunted Steelers defense, throwing for over 320 yards with three touchdowns – one of which made history as Kelce paid tribute to Pro Football Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez by copying his iconic dunk celebration over the goalposts.
Early in the fourth quarter with the Chiefs leading 22-10, Mahomes wheeled away from Steelers defensive pressure and slung a floated 12-yard touchdown pass to the wide-open Kelce in the end zone. The score represented a moment in history, as Kelce broke his tie with Gonzalez.
Kelce now has 77 receiving touchdowns – more than any player in Kansas City history. Across his illustrious career, the three-time Super Bowl champion has constructed a Hall of Fame-caliber resume and stands as an all-time great Chief.
However, Kelce’s popstar girlfriend Taylor Swift was not in attendance for the Christmas Day clash. While her blockbuster ‘Era’s Tour’ has come to an end, Swift missed Kelce enter the history books once again as she continues to no show at Chiefs road games.
Last Christmas, Swift brought her family to the Chiefs surprising loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. But in 2024, the 35-year-old supported her boyfriend from afar. Ultimately, the decision was not surprising; the loss to the Raiders was at Arrowhead Stadium in Missouri, and Swift is avoiding road games this season due to security risk.

However, Swift missed out on Kelce’s historic moment. While he received a flag from the officials for his celebration, Kelce does not have to worry about the fine; after he recorded his 76th touchdown reception and was primed to break Gonzalez’s record, the NFL legend said: If he dunks it, I will pay that fine.
The pair clearly hold a lot of respect for one another. In a video posted to X, Gonzalez congratulated Kelce on the achievement.
Whats up Travis? Gonzalez said. Congratulations on breaking the all-time Chiefs touchdown record. A lot of big names that you passed – including me – but I just want to say congratulations man. Watching you grow as a player on the field, off the field, everything youve done for the game, for the position couldnt be prouder of you, couldnt be happier for you.
Keep it up – you got a lot more to go, OK, cause I know you got it in you. Good luck to you brother. Congrats!
The 15-1 Chiefs end their regular season against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Jan. 5.
