Tom Brady has responded to Baker Mayfield’s controversial comments about the legendary quarterback and his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Mayfield is now in his second season with the Buccaneers after his renaissance 2023 year saw him sign a four-year extension to become the franchise’s long-term quarterback. He has continued to play impressively in 2024.

Heading into Week 4, Mayfield spoke about the dynamic of the Buccaneers’ roster and how the team has changed since it won a Super Bowl four years ago when Brady was quarterback. Brady guided them to glory in his first year with the team after moving from the New England Patriots.

Mayfield said: “The building was a little bit different with Tom in there. Obviously, playing-wise, Tom is different. He had everybody dialed in, high-strung environment, so I think everybody was pretty stressed out.”

He added: “You hear some of the stories about if he didn’t like a certain play call and he didn’t like it throughout the week and they still call it in the game, there might have been a throwaway on purpose or throwing it at the running back or receiver’s feet. There were a lot of mind games going on.”

On Sunday, Brady called the Buccaneers’ win in his new FOX Sports role, and was asked to respond to Mayfield’s words, taking issue with the quarterback using the word ‘stress’. He said: “I thought stressful was not having Super Bowl rings.

The two dapped up before sharing words with one another

“This wasn’t daycare…If I was going to have fun, I was going to Disneyland with my kids. There’s a way to approach this game and it’s with the right mindset to push teammates.”

Brady brought Tampa Bay it’s first Super Bowl since 2003 in his first season with the team, with the team having a dominant offensive unit – going on to make the playoffs in the following two seasons before he walked away from the game before he retired after the 2022 season.

Mayfield will hope to get close to what Brady accomplished with the team, who is universally agreed to be the greatest quarterback of all-time after win seven Super Bowl’s in his career.
