General Hospital star Tristan Rogers, best known for his role as Robert Scorpio Tristan on the show, died at the age of 79 from lung cancer.
“The entire General Hospital family is heartbroken to hear of Tristan Rogers’ passing,” General Hospital Executive Producer Frank Valentini stated, per the news outlet. “Tristan has captivated our fans for more than 50 years, and Port Charles will not be the same without him (or Robert Scorpio). I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this difficult time. Tristan was a one-of-a-kind talent and will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.”
Tristan’s longtime manager, Meryl Soodak, confirmed the actors death. Meryl revealed to ABC 7 Eyewitness News that he was never a smoker, adding that Tristan’s role as Robert in General Hospital meant everything to him.
She continued, He loved being Scorpio, and he created that role from nothing. He was supposed to work a day, and he ended up making it into something huge. He was just a genuinely loyal, kind human being, and he loved his family.
For over 45 years, Tristan portrayed the role of Robert on General Hospital, gaining a loyal fanbase throughout the decades.
Many General Hospital fans have been mourning Tristan’s death all over X, formerly Twitter.
“My heart is heavy. Goodbye my spectacular friend. My deepest condolences to his wife Teresa and their children. Tristan Rogers was a very bright light, as an actor and a person. I was so lucky to have known him,” one X user wrote.
“Awwww very sad. Watched him in his younger days and very much enjoyed when he was on,” another remarked.
Fellow General Hospital star Jon Lindstrom wrote, “I know the sadness I feel at this news is shared by so many of you. #TristanRogers was one of the coolest, funniest people I ever met. Whenever we were together, which wasnt nearly often enough, we never missed a chance to try to crack the other one up. I wish Id had more of those chances. R.I.P. #FlightOfAngels #Scorpio @GeneralHospital #GH
Another fan added: “Aussies are made of tough stuff but even tough stuff has its expiration date. Our friend Tristan Rogers, a charming, self deprecating, handsome and witty bloke from the Great Southern Land went home today. Bless and keep your spirit Tristan. Cancer sucks. @tristanrogers.”
Tristan is survived by his wife, two kids and grandchild.
