Aaron Rodgers has been told an “ideal landing spot” if the quarterback leaves the New York Jets.

It’s been a season to forget for Rodgers and the Jets – one that the veteran seemingly can’t wait to see the back of. The 4-12 Jets saw their season effectively end weeks ago when their faint hopes of reaching the playoffs were finally dashed despite Rodgers believing the team could make a run for the Super Bowl at the start of the season.

After winning two of their opening three games of the NFL season, the Jets have fallen to blow after blow and Rodgers’ illustrious career has also witnessed record-breaking lows. The Jets will be looking to rebuild again this offseason as they look to find a new general manager and head coach, and the impending changes begs the question of whether the 41-year-old is still the man for the job.

Should he leave the Jets, then ESPN presenter Stephen A. Smith has identified where he believes the perfect destination would be. Speaking on a recent episode of ‘First Take’, Smith predicted that the Jets signal caller could head to the AFC North with the Cleveland Browns.

“I don’t want to see him. I don’t want him going to the AFC North, even though I think the Browns would be an ideal landing spot,” Smith said, speaking as a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

The Browns will start their fourth quarterback of the season this weekend with Bailey Zappe set to start as signal caller against the Baltimore Ravens. Quarterback is the most glaring position needed for the Browns this offseason following an injury-hit campaign.

Rodgers has previously spoken about his future but has remained tight-tipped while also paying gratitude to the Jets for his tough two years spent in New York. “I’m just resigned to the reality of the situation. There’s going to be change here,” he said.

“If I’m a part of the change, then I just want to make sure everybody knows I have nothing but gratitude for my time here. It’s been a great experience all around. I’m disappointed about the performance with myself and as a team, but really thankful for the opportunity. If I feel good about coming back and they want to make another run at this, that’d be fantastic. But I’m not naive to the situation we’re in.

“I don’t take it personally. It’s not a weird feeling,” Rodgers said of the questions about what the Jets will want to do this offseason. “If I want to play and they don’t want me here, the I’ll see if there are other options. But first I’ve got to wrap my head around doing the grind one more time.”
