Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill might be feeling some heat from the other wide receivers in the AFC East after a busy day of trade activity.
In the aftermath of the New York Jets landing Davante Adams and Buffalo Bills adding Amari Cooper, Hill wrote on X that the wide receiver position is “getting interesting over here in the AFC East.”
Adams and Cooper are joining a division that already featured Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Garrett Wilson. Khalil Shakir is also in the midst of a breakout season with the Bills.
The headliner is Adams because he is going to the Jets and reuniting with Aaron Rodgers. They formed one of the best quarterback-receiver duos in the NFL during a six-season span from 2016 to ’21.
Rodgers and the Jets are looking for any spark they can get right now after a 23-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday night dropped them to third place in the division with a 2-4 record.
Wilson’s still-developing chemistry with Rodgers is starting to show signs of improvement. He has surpassed the 100-yard mark in each of the past two games, including a season-high 107 yards and a score against the Bills.
The Bills’ decision to acquire a receiver seemed obvious given how much they struggled in the two games Shakir missed with an ankle injury. It’s also not surprising that Cooper was the caliber of wideout they went after because they need someone who can win in one-on-one situations.
Hill and the Dolphins are in a difficult spot because of how unsettled things are at quarterback with Tua Tagovailoa out of action due to a concussion. He can be activated off injured reserve and begin practicing on Oct. 23, but it doesn’t seem like it will happen that soon.
Head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters on Monday he expects to see Tagovailoa “playing football in 2024, but they will “let the process continue since we still have time before we could even entertain anything.”
Hill has been held under 70 receiving yards in each of the past four games after opening the season with 130 yards. He only had four games with fewer than 70 yards in 16 starts last season.
Miami will look to get back to the .500 mark for the first time since Week 2 when it returns from a bye on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium.
