Not only is do-it-all Colorado star Travis Hunter among the fa vorites to win the Heisman Trophy this year, but he’s also well in the running to be the first player selected in the 2025 NFL draft.
This season, Hunter has taken another leap in college football, establishing himself as one of the more dynamic playmakers on offense while looking unguardable at times – whilst also stepping in and making huge plays at cornerback.
Alongside quarterback Shedeur Sanders – who is also among the favorites to be drafted with the first overall pick next year – the Buffaloes are now a ranked team for the first time under head coach Deion Sanders.

But both [Shedeur] Sanders and Hunter will be leaving the school after this season, where they will await to see where they fall in the draft – obviously, having no say in the team they join. But if they did have it their way, Hunter has already stated where he’d like to play.
Speaking on the “Kickin’ It With Dee” podcast, he admitted he’d like to stay in Colorado and play for the Broncos. He said: “I want to make an impact on the [Colorado] community. They took us in with open arms. My neighbors help me out a lot. Sometimes, I go to away games, and I need somebody to watch my dog. I feel comfortable I can go to my neighbors…
“They watch out for my house. They watch out for everything that’s going on because they know how much I mean to the city, how much I mean to the state. I never feel uncomfortable. I wish I could just go to the Broncos to stay in Colorado because so many people have welcomed us.”

And in an interview in 2023 podcast, he told 12Talks: “My favorite team is the [San Francisco] 49ers, but if I had to say, I like staying in Colorado (with the Denver Broncos).”
While Hunter has impressed many with his abilities on the defensive side at corner, it’s his skill as a wide receiver that will likely be his optimal position in the NFL. Despite this, his head coach believes he should be allowed to play both ways once he gets to the league.
He said: “The thing about Travis is, if you put him on, if he plays cornerback, and he’s being dominant out there, and you sit up there and you can’t move the ball at the next level, you’re gonna say ‘Well, my best receiver’s on the sidelines, somebody come on’… Travis is a football player, and you can’t have a football player on the sidelines.”
