Bill Belichick’s recent deal with North Carolina doesn’t guarantee the longtime NFL coach will stay in the college ranks for long, especially with the Las Vegas Raiders moving on from head coach Antonio Pierce.
NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero reported on Wednesday that “multiple NFL teams have inquired whether Belichick would reconsider his move to college football.”
New Raiders minority owner Tom Brady – who spent almost 20 years as a player with Belichick for the New England Patriots – is reported to be part of the team’s new search for a head coach. Could the seven-time Super Bowl champion push to reunite with his former six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach?
The pair spoke about a possible reunion in the fall after Brady’s stake in the team became finalized in October.

Belichick’s contract includes a $10 million buyout if he were to opt out of his coaching duties before June 1, 2024 – akin to many buyout fees for coaches in the European footballing world.
Pelissero also reported how it’s unsure if this contract wrinkle “would apply if he returns to the NFL.” However, there seems to be little other reason Belichick would leave his post at UNC.

Outside of the Brady connection, the Las Vegas job likely isn’t too appealing to Belichick even if the organization pays his release clause.
The Raiders are fresh off a 4-13 campaign where they cycled through three quarterbacks (Gardner Minshew, Aiden O’Connell, and Desmond Ridder) but didn’t quite bottom out enough to take an elite one in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Five other teams have head coaching openings: the Chicago Bears, NEw York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Saints, and the Patriots.
FS1’s Collin Cowherd offered a bold take in December for Belichick’s next gig. “Here’s my hottest take… If Philadelphia loses in the first round or the second round, Bill Belichick can get out of his contract this July [2025].”
“Belichick already got his kid at Carolina to be the DC. Why did Carolina allow Belichick to have that? Because Belichick knows there are two jobs that are fascinating – Philly and Buffalo.”
