Tiger Woods showcased exactly why he’s one of the all-time greats as he displayed his incredible accuracy during the launch of his TGL.
Woods teamed up with Rory McIlroy to launch TGL as a high-tech golf league looking to intertwine technology within the traditional sport. TGL takes place indoors and relies on a giant golf simulator, and represents a modern take on golf.
TGL features 24 PGA Tour players split between six teams: Atlanta Drive GC, Boston Common Golf, New York Golf Club, The Bay Golf Club, Jupiter Links GC, and LAGC. On Tuesday, the first match saw New York Golf Club’s Xander Schauffele, Rickie Fowler, and Matt Fitzpatrick take on The Bay Golf Club’s Wyndham Clark, Shane Lowry, and Ludvig Aberg.

While Woods wasn’t competing himself, the 15-time major champion stole the show with an incredible moment of magic before the event even kicked off. Speaking to McIlroy, Woods outlined how he spectacularly struck a TGL camera while practicing.
Woods explained how he hit a shot in front of the camera crew, with one member telling him to hit the small camera. The 49-year-old stepped up in front of the 60-foot screen and nailed the camera on the first attempt when challenged – and there was video evidence to prove it.
After struggling with poor form and ailing health, Woods endured a difficult 2024 season. The PGA Tour bestowed a ‘Lifetime Achievement exemption category’ upon him, created specifically to ensure the 48-year-old is in the field at signature events amid his lesser schedule at this stage of his career.
But Woods is set to take part in his TGL as a member of Jupiter Links, and is scheduled to play five times this season alongside teammates Max Homa, Tom Kim, and Kevin Kisner. Three of those men will play in Jupiter Links’ first match against Los Angeles Golf Club, who boast Sahith Theegala, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, and Collin Morikawa.

In TGL, the winner of each hole will earn one point, and the team with the most points prevails over a 15-hole match. Each match is divided into two sessions. Session one includes a ‘triples’ nine-hole three vs three foursomes match, and session two compiling of a ‘singles’ one-on-one clash over six holes, with each player playing two holes.
If matches are then tied in regulation play, overtime is played with a penalty shootout-style challenge competed with a team required to hit two shots closer to the hole than their rivals to secure a win. Teams are issued two points for a win and no points for a loss in regular play. An overtime loss earns a team one point.
Following the end of the 15-week season, the league’s top four teams will compete in the playoffs to win the title. Then, a best-of-three finals will crown the first TGL champion. Woods’ Jupiter Links will take on LAGC from 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
