Terry Bradshaw clapped back at his ‘FOX NFL Sunday’ co-hosts for insinuating that Aaron Rodgers’ record-setting feat could play a role in his decision to retire.
Entering the New York Jets’ final regular season matchup against the Miami Dolphins, Rodgers boasts 499 touchdown passes over a decorated 20-year career. Should he find the end zone through the air on Sunday, he’d join Tom Brady (649), Drew Brees (571), Peyton Manning (539) and Brett Favre (508) as the only quarterbacks in NFL history to amass 500 touchdown passes.
Ahead of the Week 18 slate of games, FOX Sports pundit Michael Strahan insisted that Sunday’s contest will be Rodgers’ last game with the Jets – and perhaps his final contest in the NFL. “This will be his last game as a Jet in my opinion, he’s one touchdown away from hitting that 500 touchdown mark,” he began.

“But a lot comes with Aaron Rodgers and if you’re going to take on everything that comes with Aaron Rodgers, you need the production that usually comes with Aaron Rodgers and they’re not getting that.
“This is Aaron Rodgers’ last game as a Jet. And if there’s somebody out there, I’d always believe there are teams who feel like they can get him and fix him and get that last bit. But is it worth it all with everything that comes with him? I don’t know.”
Moments after Strahan finished his point, Bradshaw questioned why his co-host even brought up Rodgers’ impending accomplishment when discussing the signal-caller’s potential retirement.

“Why do we always talk about records? 499, I threw 212 touchdown passes,” Bradshaw said. “It doesn’t matter. 212, I gave it to Howie [Long]. Howie coughed up a lung writing it down.”
To his credit, Strahan is far from the only pundit who’s speculated that Rodgers could hang up the cleats after securing his elusive 500th passing touchdown. Entering Sunday’s contest, the Jets offense has gone 14-consecutive possessions without a touchdown when the four-time MVP has been on the field.
While making an appearance on SportsCenter, ESPN’s Adam Schefter hinted that reaching the historic milestone may be the perfect sendoff for Rodgers. “Today could be the very last NFL game for Aaron Rodgers,” he said.
“He says he’ll decide his future, before free agency in March, he sounded like a man this past week talking about the idea of retiring like this could very well be his last game. Of course, it’s very difficult to predict what somebody who has a documentary after him named Enigma is going to do ultimately a couple of months from now, but the fact of the matter is, it is possible that this will be his last NFL game.
“He has 499 career [touchdown] passes, one short of 500 sure he’ll get that today against the Dolphins, and that may be the way that Aaron Rodgers goes out and starts the clock on his time to Canton five years from his last game.”
