Steph Curry has heaped praise onto South Carolina’s star guard MiLaysia Fulwiley.
The Golden State Warriors legend knows what it takes to be great and it is clear Curry sees Fulwiley as having the skills to be the next great college basketball star. And while Fulwiley continues to be a spark of the bench of Dawn Staley’s squad, Curry knows the young star has what it takes to excel.
Speaking to Greenville News, the NBA star explained what separates Fulwiley from the pack, even if she is playing limited minutes for a stacked Gamecocks team. In particular, Curry noted Fulwiley’s willingness to get better as a main contributor to her upcoming success.

“She knows she’s good but there’s humility too,” he told the outlet [h/t bolavip]. “She knows she has a lot more to do and can get a lot better. I like that combination. There’s things you can’t teach with her, her ball handling, speed, athleticism, the way she sees the game, she’s fearless.”
Despite coming off the bench for a majority of her collegiate career, the Warriors star’s brand – the Curry Brand – signed Fulwiley to be the first player to sign a deal with Under Armour’s offshoot. As such, Curry holds Fulwiley and her ability to a higher regard than others.
“That’s her story, that’s the cool part,” he continued. “Everyone has a different journey and she has such a unique perspective in the game … very similar to like a Devin Booker story, a player that was a part of championship caliber team in college but a six-man role like MiLaysia is … I think the sky’s the limit for her.“

In 17.8 minutes per game, Fulwiley is averaging 10.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists, coming off the bench in all of South Carolina’s games this year. Her numbers are slightly down from her freshman year, though that is to be expected since the guard is playing fewer minutes.
Along with believing the sky is the limit for Fulwiley, Curry noted his brand signed the guard to a name, image and likeness (NIL) deal because of her familiarity with the brand and what it is trying to do.
“When it comes to the ability to change the game for good, nobody can speak to that more than MiLaysia,” Curry said, per Sports Illustrated. “She’s changing the women’s game on the fly with how she plays and moves on the court. She has a unique style and flow to her game that I don’t think many people have seen in a long time.
“She was a part of Curry Camp, is a Team Curry alumni, and is currently playing at an Under Armour school, so there are just so many great tie-ins to the Under Armour family, and partnering with her and Curry Brand is such a special opportunity. I’m humbled that she is now a part of the family.”
Fulwiley expressed her gratitude toward Curry and Under Armour for choosing her to be the brand’s first NIL athlete. “It feels incredible to be picked to represent Curry Brand,” she said. “Knowing that I can be a role model for other young girls to come out here and do exactly what I did is amazing.”
