Patrick Mahomes didn’t shy away from sharing his thoughts on Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce’s firing.

On Tuesday, the Raiders announced they are parting ways with Pierce after finishing 4-13 during his first full season at the helm. “We appreciate Antonio’s leadership, first as an interim head coach and this past season as the head coach,” Las Vegas wrote in an official statement.

“Antonio grew up a Raiders fan and his Silver and Black roots run deep. We are grateful for his ability to reignite what it means to be a Raider throughout the entire organization. We wish nothing but the best for Antonio and his family in the future.”

News of Pierce’s ousting appeared to catch the attention of Mahomes, who’s currently enjoying a first round bye in the playoffs after propelling the Kansas City Chiefs to a 15-2 record and No. 1 seed in the AFC. Taking to social media, the star signal-caller “liked” an Instagram post from ESPN sharing the news.

Fans were hardly surprised to see that there is still no love lost between Mahomes and Pierce given the Chiefs and Raiders’ fierce rivalry. “Well, he did talk a lot of trash on Patrick,” one X user wrote, with another adding: “After beating Mahomes & almost doing it again in back to back arrowhead trips I’d be happy for him to be gone too.”

Others downplayed Mahomes’ activity on Instagram, insisting that the liked post didn’t mean much. “Is he not allowed to react to national sports news,” someone else wondered. A fourth chimed in: “He is scrolling through insta like everyone else and liking what he sees. You trying to tell me you don’t do the same??”

Over the last two years, Pierce and Mahomes have had no shortage of tense moments while duking it out in the AFC West. During an appearance on Maxx Crosby’s ‘The Rush Podcast’ during the offseason, the 46-year-old revealed that the Raiders wanted to physically punish the quarterback last season – similar to how the 1980s Detroit Pistons treated Michael Jordan during his prime.

“We’ve got what I’m calling now, from now on as long as I’m here, the Patrick Mahomes rules,” Pierce said at the time. “You remember when Jordan was going through it with the Pistons, all those guys in the ’80s before he became Michael Jordan, Air Jordan, the Pistons used to whip his —.

“Any time he came to the hole – elbows, feeling him, love taps. We’re in his head, mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, I’m touching you. So I showed my guys Jordan getting his — whooped.”

Several months later, a video of Raiders rookie Trey Taylor playing with a Kermit the Frog doll donning a Mahomes jersey made the rounds on social media. When asked about the playful jab directed at him, the 29-year-old warned: “It’ll get handled when it gets handled.”

Pierce, meanwhile, informed members of the media that the incident was addressed internally, bluntly stating: “It’s over with.”
