NFL fans were left raving about color commentator Kevin Harlan as he called a dramatic Week 17 clash between the Denver Broncos and Cincinnati Bengals.

A rare Saturday game in the NFL had huge playoff implications with the Broncos looking to secure their post-season spot and the Bengals fighting to keep their hopes alive. The game, being broadcast live on NFL Network, had Harlan on the call alongside Trent Green.

And fans watching made no secret of the fact they loved hearing Harlan on the call. The 64-year-old, the son of former Green Bay Packers President Bob Harlan, is in his 40th consecutive season of NFL play-by-play commentary, where he works for CBS. He’s also an experienced NBA broadcaster on TNT.

“Seriously though, CBS needs to give Kevin Harlan more marquee games. This is the best voice in football,” one fan wrote. “Jim Nantz is good. Ian Eagle is fine. But Kevin Harlan has the perfect balance of voice & electricity to his voice”.

Another said: “Kevin Harlan should call every NFL game,” with another comment adding: “Put Kevin Harlan on every primetime NFL game man”.

“kevin harlan is the best doing it and i’m not sure it’s remotely close,” wrote one viewer, with others calling him “elite at his craft” and declaring he delivered a “five star performance”.

The game was sent to overtime by a dramatic late touchdown from Marvin Mims after the Broncos drove down the field in under two minutes after the Bengals had taken a seven-point lead.

“IT IS… IT IS… CAUGHT! TOUCHDOWN! TOUCHDOWN! MIMS CAUGHT THE BALL! MARVIN MIMS CAUGHT THE BALL! TOUCHDOWN DENVER!” Harlan exclaimed as Mims came down with the ball surrounded by two Bengals defenders.

There was even more drama in overtime as Bengals kicker Cade York missed a 33-yard field goal to win the game, hitting the left upright. It left the Broncos, only needing a tie to make the playoffs, looking to close out the game but they were forced to punt, giving Joe Burrow one final opportunity.

And Burrow found Tee Higgins in the end zone to win the game for the Bengals, ending a classic encounter.
