Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin hasn’t thought about replacing the struggling Russell Wilson for Terry Bradshaw‘s favorite quarterback, Justin Fields, amid a four-game losing streak.
Wilson, 36, replaced 4-2 Fields in Week 7 against the New York Jets and led the Steelers to a 37-15 win over Aaron Rodgers. However, the quarterback has racked up a 6-5 overall record, with four consecutive losses at the back end of the 2024 NFL regular season.
The Steelers lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Cincinnati Bengals, leaving Pittsburgh heading into the playoffs on a mean losing streak and without vital momentum. Pittsburgh will play either the AFC South champions, the Houston Texans, or their AFC North rivals, the Baltimore Ravens.
Their wild card playoff round hinges on whether the Los Angeles Chargers lose or beat the Las Vegas Raiders. A Raiders win would see Pittsburgh keep the No. 5 seed and head for a road game against Houston, while a Chargers win would set up a third meeting with Baltimore as the No. 6 seed.

Despite the Steelers’ offensive struggles, HC Tomlin hasn’t considered swapping Wilson out for Fields ahead of the playoffs, which will not be music to the ears of NFL legend Bradshaw, one of the former Chicago Bears star’s biggest fans. Bradshaw is a big fan of Fields’ athleticism and performance on the gridiron when he was the starter in Pittsburgh, and he expressed his support for that to be continued and not swapped out for Wilson.
“I totally disagree with this decision by Mike Tomlin,” Bradshaw said at the time after Tomlin benched Fields. “I would stay with Fields. Fields fits this team’s personality. They like to run the football. He’s a big strong running quarterback, athletic enough, but also a guy that can move the football through the air. I don’t understand the move.”
However, Tomlin, and Wilson, have made it clear that Bradshaw’s opinion on who should be starting in Pittsburgh holds no weight on their decision-making. “Not really, no,” Tomlin said when asked if he considered benching Wilson for Fields. “Honesty, because our failures were collective, and I think at this juncture the most prudent thing for us to do was stick with those that were on the field and work through it.”

Wilson is trying his best to reset the clock heading into the playoffs and not be bogged down by the four-straight losses. I don’t really wanna talk about the past just because I think we’ve been in that for a little bit here,” Wilson told reporters on the Steelers’ losing streak.
“I think the best thing we can do is get ready for the playoffs. It’s a new season. That’s the only thing that really matters anymore at this point, right?
“The reality is, obviously us winning that game would have helped us in some form or fashion. But at the end of the day, when you go into the playoffs, everybody’s 0-0. You gotta beat everybody anyway. And that’s gotta be our focus right now.”
