For Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell, the sting of his team’s heartbreaking playoff loss still lingers. After an incredible season that saw the Lions capture the No. 1 seed, their shocking divisional-round exit at home against the Washington Commanders left a deep mark—not just on Campbell, but on the entire franchise.
While he’s already shifting his focus toward next season, there’s nothing like a little extra love at home to lift his spirits. And when it comes to comfort, Campbell’s biggest supporter (aside from his wife, Holly) might just be his tiny four-legged friend, Thelma.
A Sweet Reunion After the NFL Combine
Campbell recently returned home from scouting at the NFL Combine, where he spent days evaluating draft prospects in preparation for April’s NFL Draft. Upon his arrival back home, he was greeted with pure joy—a warm welcome from his teacup Yorkie, Thelma.
Holly captured the adorable moment, posting a photo of the 6-foot-5, 48-year-old NFL coach cradling his tiny lap dog.
“Daddy is back! Let the puppy naps and coffee runs resume!! ?” Holly captioned the sweet image.

Thelma: The NFL’s Smallest (and Cutest) Support System
For those unfamiliar, Thelma is Campbell’s beloved teacup Yorkie, and their bond is undeniable. This isn’t the first time fans have seen Campbell’s softer side, as he’s previously been spotted taking Thelma along for coffee runs in his miniature truck—a hilarious contrast to the Lions’ intense and gritty leader.
And speaking of coffee, Holly also revealed that with Dan back home, his Starbucks tradition has resumed. The Lions coach is known for his giant caffeine orders, often accompanied by handwritten inspirational messages from the Starbucks staff—an extra boost to keep his spirits high after a tough postseason ending.

Finding Comfort After a Tough Playoff Loss
The Lions’ divisional-round loss to Washington wasn’t just a painful moment for the team—it also ruined Holly’s 50th birthday celebration, as the couple had to process the stunning defeat instead of celebrating the milestone.
In an effort to cheer him up, Holly previously shared a throwback bikini photo for their anniversary and even gifted Dan a hilarious Valentine’s Day card—proving that, even in heartbreak, she’s always finding ways to keep the mood light.
Now, with Thelma back in his lap and a fresh cup of Starbucks in hand, Campbell is slowly shifting gears toward the future. These are the little moments that help him reset, recharge, and refocus before he gets back to work building the Lions for another playoff run.
And if all else fails, there’s always puppy love to help him through it.
