Iconic PGA Tour course Riviera Country Club is in the evacuation zone for the wildfire ripping through California.
Firefighters are battling to control a rapid-moving brush fire fueled by strong Santa Anna winds from northwest Los Angeles. The concerning natural disaster has forced residents in the area to evacuate for their own safety, and the historic Riviera Country Club golf course is now in the mandatory evacuation zone.
The Pacific Palisades fire was first reported shortly before 10:30 a.m. PT on Tuesday morning near the Pacific Palisades Highlands community. This is approximately five miles from Riviera Country Club, which is set to host next month’s Genesis Invitational.

The Genesis Invitational is a signature event run by Tiger Woods’ foundation on the PGA Tour. First played 98 years ago in 1926, it’s a historic event that players respect and look forward to competing in.
But now it’s unclear if the tournament will go ahead given the danger of the fires. Riviera was originally outside the evacuation zone, but the blaze swiftly spread due to high wind gusts to cover over 1,200 acres in size in hours. As a result, the mandatory zone was expanded.
Riviera, southeast of the fire, now sits just inside the zone, which also extends past Big Rock Beach to the west and into Topanga State Park in the north. According to NBC News, over 30,000 people have been evacuated.

It has been over seven years since a wildfire affected golf. The Atlas Fire impacted the Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, California, mere hours after the conclusion of the 2017 Safeway Open.
While the course was relatively unaffected, grandstands from the tournament were engulfed in flames. Along with nearby Tubbs and Nuns fires, the wildfire caused damages of more than a billion dollars and killed over 30 people.
The 2025 Genesis Invitational is set to take place at the Riviera Country Club next month, with the event running from February 13-16. Hideki Matsuyama, the 2021 Masters champion, is the reigning winner after emerging victorious with a score of 17-under, three strokes ahead of Will Zalatoris and Luke List.
