Rapper DJ Khaled had golf fans cringing after he gave an interview to Marty Smith at the launch of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s ‘Tomorrow’s Golf League’.

After a year-long delay, TGL finally got up and running at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Opening night saw The Bay Golf Club secure a comfortable 9-2 victory over New York Golf Club, with the likes of Shane Lowry, Wyndham ClarkXander SchauffeleRickie Fowler and Matt Fitzpatrick all in action.

One talking point that emerged from the action on Tuesday evening was an interview with DJ Khaled, which made waves on social media. The music mogul has not been quiet about his ambitions to become a golf pro, and was in attendance at TGL’s inaugural event.

Chatting to ESPN’s Smith, Khaled blew his own trumpet about his golfing ability, comparing himself to Woods after he sank a putt, adding he was also inspired by the 15-time major winner. “It was incredible,” the rapper told Smith.

“First of all, I don’t know if they’re going to play the highlight, but I nailed all my putts, right? I hit a great, great drive. And then my putts, my play, the one that went down the hill with the no look. And then, ohh, I was inspired by Tiger Woods on that one.”

“I was inspired by Tiger Woods when I putted it, just walked away. I knew what he was in. She’s gone.

He added: “If you have confidence, that’s what it’s about. I want the young world out there to know if you got confidence, you’re unstoppable.

“Don’t worry, keep at it. But you know what? Golf is fun. And also, if you want to be competitive, I have a saying. Bring two bags, a golf bag and a brown paper bag.”

However, it’s safe to say fans on social media didn’t enjoy Khaled’s interview, with plenty chiming in stating they were there to watch the golf and not the 49-year-old record producer. “Good grief, absolutely nobody cares about him,” wrote on user on X. A second added: “And they call LIV a circus – seriously.”

A third said: “worst part of the whole thing.” A fourth commented: “Can golf get away from this idiot.” A fifth wrote: “Had to turn it off after the 2nd. Flashy just for the sake of being flashy.”

A sixth commented: “There’s a guy with this energy at every public course men’s club league.” And a seventh said: “I really cannot emphasize enough how much we do not need to see any more of DJ Khaled on this TGL broadcast.”
