Deion Sanders couldn’t help but be emotional on the journey he took with his sons throughout the year at Colorado.
Both of Sanders’ sons, Shilo and Shedeur, played in the Alamo Bowl against BYU and the elder Sanders couldn’t help but get emotional upon reflecting on the time the three of them had. Of the two sons, Shedeur has garnered a fair share of the spotlight, often throwing touchdown passes to two-way star Travis Hunter.
Shilo is a defensive presence in his own right. Though the aforementioned Hunter often gets the attention, Shilo has quietly been a presence, amassing one interception, one sack, five forced fumbles and 126 tackles in just the last two seasons as one of Colorado’s safeties.

Before Colorado’s matchup against BYU, Deion spoke with ESPN about what it meant to have his two sons playing for him. And the Buffaloes head coach was overcome with emotion, just trying to recall how the last handful of season have been for the family, especially on the field.
“The journey. The journey,” Deion explained while fighting back his emotions. “It’s been a tremendous, tumultuous journey. I’m sorry, this is tough. This is tough.”
As he continued to speak on his sons, Deion explained that he was recalling back to when he first started coaching the two, as they now looked ahead to the next chapters of their professional careers, especially with Shedeur getting attention as potentially a top-pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

“I’m seeing when they first put on uniforms,” Deion shared. “You know, when they first started. When I first started coaching them. The good, the bad, the indifferent. The ups and downs. It’s just a journey. It’s been a heck of a journey. And I’m thankful and I’m appreciative. I really am.”
With that, the Buffaloes coach attempted to gain his composure, especially as the it got closer to game time. “I thank God for it. I’ve got to get it together. I’ve got to coach,” he added. “I’ve got to get it together.”
It wasn’t just he elder Sanders who had a message for his sons. Shedeur also had a special message on his cleats, with some fans pondering on social media whether the colorway of the cleats designated his preferred destination in the upcoming draft.
The star quarterback’s cleats of choice featured a red upper with rich blue accents, matching the New York Giants‘ team colors. The Nike swoosh and Giants logos are both displayed. The sneakers also featured blue laces to complete the colorway.
That said, while many believed the cleats to be the signal caller’s pair, he opted to wear another pair once the game started, putting on a pair of the standard, team-issued colorway.
