Pieces of the AT&T Stadium roof fell onto the playing field just hours before the Dallas Cowboys take on the Houston Texans on Monday Night Football.
According to FOX 4 in Dallas, bits of debris including a ‘large piece of metal’ fell as the roof was being opened in preparation for the prime time game. No one was injured, but the piece fell near several people who were on the field preparing for the television broadcast, and it obviously immediately raised safety concerns.
The large piece of metal debris fell from overhead and landed near production staffers on field level. Lisa Salters provided a report, explaining the situation for viewers who were surprised to hear of the collapsing roof.

“I was standing in this exact spot getting ready to do a hit for SportsCenter when bits of debris started falling from the sky,” Salters told Scott Van Pelt. “They were opening the roof here, and you could see these big chunks of what looked like dust, paper, plastic, and then all of a sudden… this big piece of metal just kind of floated down and fell onto the field. This happened when they started opening the roof here.”
“The bottom done already fell out in Dallas, the top might as well too,” Ryan Clark quipped before Jason Kelce added: “It’s very metaphorical for Dallas’ season.”
ESPN reported the situation was being reviewed to see if the visit of the Texans could be played without the roof. Upon noticing there was another metal sheet that appeared loose, the Cowboys opted to close the roof for the game.

The Cowboys also released a statement to address the issue, which read: “We can confirm a piece of metal came loose and fell to the field (with some additional small debris) while the roof was in the process of opening. There were no injuries. It is being reviewed further, and a decision regarding the ability to re-open the roof safely will be made when possible.”
The scary scene comes after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones joked he could “tear down” the stadium after star receiver CeedDee Lamb failed to catch a touchdown due to sunlight. While it’s unclear what caused the debris to fall or get loose, this is just another layer of ignominy to add to the derailed Cowboys season.
The 3-6 Cowboys face the 6-4 Texans on Monday Night Football with kickoff scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET.
