Christian Pulisic is the latest big-name athlete to mimic Donald Trump‘s famous campaign-trail dance as he performed the jig after giving the United States men’s soccer team a 1-0 lead in the second leg of its CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinal game against Jamaica on Monday.
Juventus player Weston McKennie picked up the ball on the right wing, dribbled toward goal and lifted a defense-splitting pass over to the edge of the penalty box. Pulisic needed only one touch of the ball to drill it into goal on the 13th minute, which doubled USMNT’s lead on aggregate.
The 26-year-old attacker threw one arm into the air to celebrate, before performing the dance that Trump popularized on the campaign trail, as he sought re-election to the Oval Office on November 5. Trump defeated Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris the following day, as he’d secured enough electoral votes, and had won the popular vote, too.

Subsequent goals in the match helped put make the result as much of a guarantee as possible as, by half-time, Pulisic had added a second goal after 33 minutes, before Ricardo Pepi’s 42nd goal to make it 3-0 on the night, and 4-0 on aggregate.
Pepi scored the game’s only goal in the quarter-final first leg Thursday at the National Stadium Independence Park, in Kingston. Eventually, the USMNT won 4-2 on the night to book their spot in the next round.
Pulisic’s celebration is the latest in a long line of Trump-style celebrations that athletes have been performing during game-changing moments in recent matches.
On Sunday, Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Gardner Minshew in the third quarter to bring Vegas back into its game at Miami Dolphins. To celebrate, Bowers mimicked Trump’s iconic dance while still at the end zone.

Bowers said the UFC had influenced him the previous night. “I’ve seen everyone do it. I watched the UFC fight … and Jon Jones did it. I like watching UFC so I saw it, and thought it was cool,” Bowers told USA Today reporter Safid Deen, who was on the scene, after the game.
Jones, on Saturday, defeated the former UFC heavyweight ruler Stipe Miocic with a nasty spinning back kick to the body in the UFC 309 headliner at Madison Square Garden in New York City, to retain the UFC heavyweight championship. With Trump himself in the crowd, having arrived with Robert Kennedy Jr and Mike Johnson, Jones performed the Trump dance during his post-fight victory speech.
The win over Miocic advanced Jones’ pro MMA record to 28 wins (11 KOs and 7 Subs) against one defeat via disqualification.
