Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty has declared for the 2025 NFL Draft – with ESPN projecting him to land with the Dallas Cowboys.

Jeanty is coming off an incredible 2024 season in which he led the nation with 2,601 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns. The Heisman finalist fell just short of breaking Barry Sanders’ single-season record of 2,628 yards on the ground and ultimately missed out on the coveted individual award to Colorado two-way phenom Travis Hunter.

Thanks to his remarkable play, Boise State reached the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff, but Jeanty rushed for a season-low 104 yards on 30 carries and also lost a fumble in the loss to Penn State. He finishes his college career with 4,769 yards and 50 touchdowns on the ground to go along with 862 yards and five scores through the air in 40 appearances.

While Jeanty had one more season of eligibility with the Broncos, the 21-year-old decided he was ready to make the step up. He took to social media to confirm his decision to enter the 2025 NFL Draft, where he is considered the top prospect in his position.

“First of all, I want to thank God for all the opportunities he has given me. I wouldn’t be here without him,” Jeanty began in his statement.

“I want to thank Boise State and the coaches who recruited me and gave me a chance to show my greatness. The community is what makes this place special, and the support and love from Bronco Nation is unmatched. Last but not least, I want to thank all of my family and friends for their support throughout my college career.

“I’m excited to announce I am declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft. The opportunity to play in the NFL is a dream of mine, and I’m proud to represent Boise State and all of those who have helped me along the way at the next level. Go Broncos!”

Many fans are excited to see where Jeanty will end up. According to ESPN, the star running back is set to be selected by the Cowboys with the No. 12 overall pick.

After deciding against signing a name like Derrick Henry in free agency while Tony Pollard left for the Tennessee Titans, Rico Dowdle was a solid performer for the Cowboys in 2024. He rushed for 1,079 yards but is set to be a free agent himself.

Jeanty is expected to be a stud at the professional level. The Heisman runner-up is physically imposing; his 1,733 yards after contact highlight how he can break tackles and make plays, a skill that will undoubtedly help him adjust to the NFL.

Given the flak Jerry Jones and co. received as the Cowboys floundered this past season, Jeanty could be the boost the offense needs. Dak Prescott is 9-17 in his career when throwing more than 40 times in a game, so a weapon like Jeanty to solidify the run game could balance Dallas and see the NFC East franchise return to the postseason in 2025.
