Angel Reese turned heads after basketball fans spotted her speaking to her former coach, Teresa Weatherspoon, who was recently fired by the Chicago Sky.

Drafted seventh overall by the Sky following a stellar collegiate career at LSU, Reese enjoyed a strong debut WNBA season in Chicago, receiving All-Rookie and All-Star honors. But, while the Sky star earned plenty of individual plaudits, Chicago had a dismal 2024 campaign.

They finished the season going 13-27, which led to Weatherspoon, initially hired by the Sky back in October 2023, to be fired in September 2024. However, despite the poor season for Chicago, Reese holds Weatherspoon in the highest regard.

The 22-year-old is currently getting ready to appear in the new Unrivaled Women’s Basketball League, which is set to get underway later this month. The 3v3 league, initially founded in 2023, will kick off its debut season in a matter of weeks, with Reese set to play for Rose BC alongside Chelsea Gray, Brittney Sykes, Lexie Hull, Azura Stevens and Kahleah Copper.

Recently, the players and coaches set to take part in Unrivaled travelled to Miami to prepare ahead of the tournament – which led to Reese and Weatherspoon bumping into one another. The pair shared a hug, with both Reese and Weatherspoon smiling from ear to ear.

And it prompted plenty of basketball fans to chime in on social media after seeing the interaction between the two. One wrote on Instagram: “The Angel and Tspoon clip! Whoever got that is just too good.. love this marketing and BTS! Looks amazing, love this for the ladies, they deserve it!”

A second added: “Angel and Spoon!” A third said: “Love you angel Reese and tea spoon.” A fourth commented: “Dang, why is Angle and Spoon the highlight of the clip,” adding two fire emojis to their comment. And a fifth said: “Not angel and spoon being reunited oh my gosh please don’t make me cry again.”

Taking to X following Weatherspoon’s firing back in September 2024, Reese issued an impassioned message to her first WNBA head coach. Reese wrote: “I’m heartbroken. I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life.

“She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me. Many don’t even know what it’s like to be a black women in sports when nobody believes in you.

“You had a tough job. All the crazy circumstances that we went through this year & when your back was against the wall, you always believed. I came to Chicago because of YOU. You were an unsung hero in my life.

“We built a relationship in a short amount of time that will last forever. I’ll never question God why he brings people in my life and takes them away from me in the capacity that I need them but i’ve always believed everyone is in your life for a reason and a season. You were the best reason & season. You didn’t deserve this but I can’t thank you enough. I love you Tspoon.”
