Angel Reese has made it clear that she approves of the Chicago Sky’s decision to hire Tyler Marsh as their new head coach. Marsh, who recently joined the Sky, takes over after Teresa Weatherspoon, with whom Reese shared a close relationship, was dismissed earlier in the offseason. Marsh arrives in Chicago after a successful tenure as an assistant coach with the Las Vegas Aces, where he contributed to two WNBA championships.
Reese signaled her approval of the hiring with a succinct post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, simply writing, “W.” The post left no doubt about her positive feelings regarding Marsh’s appointment.
The reaction to Marsh’s move has been mixed, particularly among his former players with the Aces.
Several players expressed envy over his new role with the Sky, making it clear that they were not ready to see him leave. Aces guard Sydney Colson wrote, “Excuse me?! We’re grieving, have some [expletive emoji] respect!” Reese, however, was unapologetic, responding, “Sorry but your time is UP. It’s our turn! I’ll send you some tissue tho sister girl unless you want to come join this side too.”
Alysha Clark also chimed in on the conversation, writing, “Like give us a day. Dang.” To this, Reese replied, “snatchiesssssss … sorry not sorry sis,” playfully rubbing in the fact that the Sky had just landed one of the top coaching talents from the Aces.

The Chicago Sky are hoping that Marsh’s leadership can help turn the franchise around after a challenging season. The team had shown promise early in the year, particularly with standout performances from rookies Angel Reese and Kamila Cardoso. However, their season took a sharp downward turn, with injuries playing a significant role in their struggles.
Reese herself suffered a season-ending wrist injury, and Chennedy Carter missed several games due to injury and illness. These setbacks led to the Sky losing their final five games and 12 of their last 14, finishing the season with a disappointing 13-27 record—the worst in the league.
Given the difficult end to their season, the dismissal of Teresa Weatherspoon came as a shock, especially to Angel Reese.
Reese had been vocal about her admiration for Weatherspoon and the impact she had on her career, even questioning whether she could see herself continuing with the Sky after her departure. In an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times, Reese shared her feelings, saying, “I can’t imagine playing for the Sky without [Spoon]. She’s the one reason I wanted to come here.”
Reese had also expressed her dismay on social media, sharing an emotional post after Weatherspoon’s firing. “I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life,” Reese wrote. “She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me. Many don’t even know what it’s like to be a Black woman in sports when nobody believes in you.”
Reese continued to elaborate on how important Weatherspoon had been in her life, particularly during the challenging times she faced during her rookie season. “You had a tough job. All the crazy circumstances that we went through this year & when your back was against the wall, you always believed. I came to Chicago because of YOU. You were an unsung hero in my life. We built a relationship in a short amount of time that will last forever,” she wrote. “You were the best reason & season. You didn’t deserve this but I can’t thank you enough. I love you Tspoon.”
Despite her initial heartbreak, Reese seems to be ready to move forward with the team under Marsh’s guidance. The hiring of Tyler Marsh appears to be a positive development for the Sky, as Reese’s reaction indicates a willingness to buy into the new direction of the franchise.
As the Sky look ahead to the upcoming season, they will rely on Marsh’s championship experience and Reese’s star power to help guide them back to contention.
