Aaron Rodgers left the field with an injury as he hobbled off the field after being strip-sacked by safety Kamren Curl with him later returning to the field while looking hampered.

It was just the latest injury scare that Rodgers has sustained this season with the 40-year-old not looking as mobile as he has in previous years, while many fans have suggested he looks worried about taking hits.

Of course, Rodgers’ future currently remains a huge contentious point, with the Jets reportedly considering cutting him at the end of the season while the quarterback is yet to make his decision on whether he’ll play in 2025.

Prior to the game with the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Rodgers told reporters: “I’m going to take some time after the year, unless I get released right away. But I’ll still take some time [to determine] whether I want to play.”

The veteran quarterback is currently in the second year of a three-year, $112.5 million contract (with $75 million guaranteed) after he signed a new deal ahead of the 2023 season after being traded from the Green Bay Packers.

Prior to this season though, Rodgers restructured his contract while adding four more years to his deal. However, those four more years are classed as ‘void’ years, meaning that he will not play on the contract with it being a way to spread out Rodgers’ cap space in order to allocate his contractual money to make additions to the current teams (eg the Davante Adams trade).

Fans have noted that Rodgers looks hesitant to taking hits this year

The quarterback’s current deal means he is owed $23 million should he he remain the team’s quarterback, with the added void years meaning it would cost the Jets $49 million if they were to trade or cut him – essentially being unavoidable that the franchise would have to pay him a significant amount – even if they do so with a post-June 1 cut meaning they could spread out his salary cap for the next three seasons.

Should Rodgers opt to return for another season with another team, it remains unclear if any franchises would have interest in bringing him in. The Las Vegas Raiders have previously looked to trade for him, but they look set to draft either Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward in April.
