Robert Griffin III sent a brilliant message to the Netflix team behind the NFL Christmas Day broadcast.
The groundbreaking stream was the first time that Netflix had ventured into the NFL following their sports broadcasting debut earlier in the year for Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson. Christmas Day action saw the streaming giant shell out $150 million for the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans vs. Baltimore Ravens.
Despite the spectacle, neutrals werent treated to the most engrossing of games as the back-to-back Super Bowl champions blitzed the Steelers in the fourth quarter to run out easy victors in the 29-10 encounter. While the Ravens dominated in a 31-2 victory over the Texans to move to an 11-5 record
Netflixs first foray into the NFL has been deemed an overall success despite several slight issues during the day. The star-studded line-up of Kay Adams, Drew Brees, Mina Kimes, and Griffin starred in the pregame show, while Ian Eagle, Nate Burlson, and JJ Watt featured in the commentary box.
Following the conclusion of the show, a studio picture was taken including the broadcast team and the production team from behind the camera. Griffin III shared the picture to social media before he added a touching message to the team for sacrificing their Christmas to bring the spectacle.
We MADE HISTORY today bringing @NFL football to the Global stage with @netflix on CHRISTMAS. And none of it would have been possible without the people behind the camera sacrificing time with their families on Christmas to make us look good in front of the camera. THANK YOU, Griffin III wrote in a post on his X page.
After the first game of the afternoon broadcast, NFL media shared the early viewing figures from the Chiefs victory over the Steelers. The blowout contest proved to be the second-most popular live title in Netflixs history with over 200 different countries tuning in to watch the game at some point.
However, NFL Christmas wasnt without its share of technical streamlining problems as some viewers complained that their stream was buffering or a pixelated picture was displayed due to connection issues. Adams opening monologue during the pregame show was also hampered by audio equipment issues.
The Christmas action also saw Beyonce performing during halftime of the Ravens’ victory over the Texans. The pop star began the show with the song 16 Carriages while riding on the back of a white horse in the stadium concourses. Beyonce later arrived at field level as she performed a rendition of the Beatles song Blackbird.’
The show marked her first live performance of the album Cowboy Carter as she was joined by Shaboozey to sing ‘Sweet Honey Buckiin,’ and later by Post Malone for ‘Levii’s Jeans.’ The trio subsequently joined forces for ‘Cowboy Carter.’
