Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey Takes the Opportunity to Hype Up Angel Reese in Their Memorable Meeting .giang

Chicago Sky star Angel Reese recently wrapped up an impressive rookie season in the WNBA and isn’t wasting any time enjoying her offseason. The 2024 seventh overall draft pick was spotted in Baltimore on Sunday night, attending the Ravens’ dominant 35-10 victory over the Buffalo Bills. Raised in Maryland, Reese received star treatment during her visit, complete with sideline passes and a custom Ravens jersey.

Before the game, Reese had a memorable interaction with Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey, who took the opportunity to express his admiration for her impact on women’s basketball.

As they shook hands, Humphrey reportedly told Reese, “I watch women’s basketball because of you. I just want to say that.” The gesture added to the already exciting night for Reese, who has quickly become one of the faces of the WNBA.

Reese, alongside fellow standout rookie Caitlin Clark, has been instrumental in boosting the visibility of women’s basketball, helping drive record viewership for the WNBA during the 2024 season. However, unlike Clark, who led her team to a strong postseason run, Reese and the Chicago Sky narrowly missed the playoffs. The Sky’s disappointing season led to the dismissal of head coach Teresa Witherspoon, a move that left Reese heartbroken.

Reese’s emotional response to Witherspoon’s firing quickly gained attention online. In a heartfelt, 183-word statement, the WNBA All-Star expressed her gratitude for her former coach and the pivotal role Witherspoon played in her life.

“I’m heartbroken. I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life. She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me. Many don’t even know what it’s like to be a Black woman in sports when nobody believes in you,” Reese wrote.

“You had a tough job. All the crazy circumstances that we went through this year, and when your back was against the wall, you always believed. I came to Chicago because of YOU. You were an unsung hero in my life. We built a relationship in a short amount of time that will last forever. I’ll never question why God brings people into my life and takes them away from me when I need them most, but I’ve always believed everyone is in your life for a reason and a season. You were the best reason & season. You didn’t deserve this, but I can’t thank you enough. I love you, Tspoon.”

Reese’s rookie campaign was impressive by any standard. She averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds—a new WNBA record—and 1.9 assists per game, earning her a spot on the WNBA All-Star team.

While her team didn’t make the playoffs, her individual performance cemented her as a rising star in the league. With the offseason underway, Reese seems to be balancing her time between high-profile appearances and reflecting on a whirlwind first year in the WNBA.
