Jailed rapper P Diddy claims people “don’t want me to party” and vows to never stop “having fun” in chilling interview republished from 1999 after his arrest
Diddy has spoken about being arrested for hosting wild parties in a bizarre republished interview.
The infamous rapper, whose real name is Sean Combs, was arrested and faces charges including sex trafficking, kidnapping, arson and conspiracy to commit extortion. He has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn and has been denied bail.
But 25 years ago, he appeared to allude to his arrest when he bragged about his wild White Parties – the parties at the heart of the federal case against him. He bragged about his infamous parties being shut down and vowed never to stop hosting them.
“They don’t even give me a party permit anymore,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “They don’t want me to have parties anymore.
“We’re not going to stop, we’re going to keep having fun, bringing people from all walks of life together. You would hear about my parties, they would shut them down, they would arrest me, do all sorts of crazy things just because we wanted to have a good time.”
He stressed that his parties were “not about anything other than breaking down racial barriers, breaking down generational barriers, people from all walks of life… Just people from all walks of life connecting and coming together.”
When asked why his parties attracted the attention of the police, Combs said, “Anytime you introduce something different into people’s environment, something that broadens people’s horizons, people get scared.”
The debauched White Parties took place in The Hamptons (New York City) in the 90s and early 2000s. Ashton Kutcher, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jay-Z and Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Russell Brand, Tommy Lee, Pamela Anderson and Paris Hilton were just a few. famously photographed at these parties.
There is no suggestion that any of the people named as having attended his parties participated in or knew about any of the alleged wrongdoing. According to music insider Tom Swoope and others, drugs including cocaine and ecstasy were snorted from all sorts of surfaces, including the bodies of guests, at the parties.
Diddy is accused of creating “a criminal enterprise whose members and associates engaged in and attempted to engage in, among other crimes, sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery and obstruction of justice.” The charges are contained in a federal indictment against the musician, who has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit extortion and sex trafficking.
The indictment alleges that he engaged in what he calls “outlandish acts.” They were alleged sex shows in which he drugged and forced the victims to have sex with male prostitutes, according to the indictment, sometimes lasting for days.
