Netflix’s hidden gem from 2021, featuring the talents of Cheers star Woody Harrelson, is getting heaps of love from viewers.
The streaming giant’s original flick, a gripping psychological thriller titled Kate, showcases not only Harrelson but also Scott Pilgrim vs. the World star Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
A fan in the Facebook group ‘Netflix Bangers’, which boasts three million members seeking top-notch recommendations, posted a snapshot from the movie with the caption: “Please review this film before I start watching.”
The call for opinions sparked a flurry of comments as numerous group members jumped in to recommend the film, praising the stellar acting on display.
Kate spins the tale of a world-weary hitwoman tasked with taking down a yakuza clan, who has just 24 hours to uncover her poisoner and exact revenge before her time runs out, reports the Daily Record.
Facebook was abuzz with enthusiasm, as one viewer exclaimed: “I love this movie.” While another echoed the sentiment, writing: “Loved it, brilliant film.”
Another chimed in: “Such a good movie. Mary Winstead is amazing in this.” And yet another urged the community, insisting that everyone “just have to” see Kate.
In this high-octane thriller, Kate (played by Winstead) is poisoned and racing against time, under the guidance of her mentor (Harrelson), to eliminate a top yakuza leader.
Her quest for vengeance leads her to snatch injectable stimulants and a firearm, setting off on a high-stakes journey where every moment counts.
The film Kate, directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan of The Huntsman: Winter’s War fame, is primarily set in Japan. Despite receiving mixed reviews upon its initial release, Facebook fans have shown significant enthusiasm for the Netflix movie.
Critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave it a combined score of 46%, with some labeling it “derivative”.
Audiences were slightly more favorable, with a 52% score, while on IMDb, it garnered a score of 52% and 6.2/10 on IMDb.
A featured user review on IMDb states: “Good looking, fast paced movie with good fight choreography and a simple story. Basically, a female John wick.
“If not for a little too much sentimentality and a plot twist you can see coming from the start I would have given it an even higher score.
“Keep your expectations low and your gratitude high and you’ll enjoy this one.”
