NFL legend Drew Brees and fan favorite host Scott Hanson have been targeted by Netflix for the streaming giants foray into football on Christmas Day.
On December 25th, Netflix is set to live-stream coverage of two exciting clashes that will have huge playoff repercussions for its 282 million paid subscribers around the world. The defending back-to-back Kansas City Chiefs take on the Pittsburgh Steelers before the Baltimore Ravens travel to the Houston Texans.
Netflix is paying $150 million for rights to the NFL Christmas Day doubleheader. During their announcement on the broadcast, the streamer took to social media to post: You cant spell Netflix without NFL.
Since the announcement of the news, Netflix has been searching for a star-studded broadcast team to call and analyze the games. Netflix originally wanted to bring on FOX Sports lead NFL announcing team of Tom Brady and Kevin Burkhardt, but the idea was turned down by FOX.
Reports then emerged revealing the father-son duo of Ian and Noah Eagle would call the games. Ian Eagle, Nate Burleson, and J.J. Watt will call the Chiefs-Steelers game before Noah Eagle and FOX Sports star Greg Olsen will call the late clash between the Ravens and Texans.
But Netflix isnt done there as it looks to get back on track with its delivery of sports events. Amid reports ESPNs Mina Kimes has been touted for a role in its Christmas Day coverage, it seems Netflix is looking to get in New Orleans Saints icon Brees and NFL RedZone favorite Hanson to also contribute to the presentation.
Brees, the former Super Bowl MVP and one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, failed during his first foray into broadcasting. He whiffed on calling NFL and Notre Dame games for NBC in 2021, but the 13-time Pro Bowler has not closed the door on a return to the booth.

I think I could be the absolute best at it, if given the opportunity, the 45-year-old Brees told Front Office Sports Today. I valued my time at NBC so much, for that year after I played, I spent most of that time in-studio on Sunday Night Football, having to work with some incredible people But I didnt really get the chance to broadcast NFL games.
And thats what I feel like Im most qualified to do. Thats what I feel like Im most passionate about. And certainly where my knowledge base lies, right? Telling the story of the game, getting you inside the huddle, getting you inside the quarterbacks head, letting you know how were attacking this defense… That to me is something Id love to do down the road when the time is right.
Potentially joining Brees on Netflix this holiday season is familiar face Hanson, whose profile continues to soar. He drew rave reviews for his entertaining turn as lead host of NBCs Gold Zone show, which was the RedZone equivalent for the networks coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Hanson is enjoying his 16th successive season as the charismatic host of RedZone, but his NFL Network contract reportedly expires after the 2024 season. He could stand as a hot free agent with no shortage of offers come 2025.
