Kamilla Cardoso’s venture to the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association has got off to a rough start as she traveled to the other side of the world.
The Chicago Sky star has taken up a new challenge in Asia during the WNBA off-season after the Sky failed to make the playoffs. Cardoso enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign in Chicago, alongside Angel Reese, after being drafted as the third overall pick in the 2024 draft.
Cardoso put up averages of 9.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.4 blocks in 27.4 minutes per game last season. And she’s looking to hit the ground running in the WCBA for her new team Shanghai Baoshan Dahua Swordfish. However, the 23-year-old endured a rough start to life with her new team.

The center took to social media to update her fans on her trip to her new home for the next couple of months. Posting on TikTok on Monday, Cardoso revealed that her connecting flights from the U.S. were without problem. But the same couldn’t be said for her arrival as she landed in Hong Kong.
Cardoso’s journey started with a Burger King in the airport before she boarded the plane, showing her connecting flight from Switzerland and the seating arrangement she found herself in. The Sky starlet also gave an insight into her food on the flight and the less-than-luxurious hotel stopover she had in Zurich.
After a three-course meal on the 11-hour and 40-minute flight, Cardoso was greeted by a “super long” line in immigration before she eventually passed customs and retrieved her bags. The former South Carolina star continued to show her taxi and hotel room before heading out to find food.
Documenting her trip to source dinner, she said in the voiceover of her video that locals were intrigued by her presence. “Everybody was staring hard as hell but I finally found a 7-11,” she said. “But everything there was really different so I went back to my hotel room.” Cardoso then revealed that her dinner for her first night in Hong Kong ended up being a bag of Doritos and a couple of bottles of water.
Despite an awkward start to her life in Asia, not many players would be able to settle as quickly as Cardoso, given her move from her native Brazil to play high school at Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She also appears to have shown her big personality with her posts and following on social media.
Cardoso will be playing in the WCBA for the next couple of months during the Sky’s off-season as the WNBA campaign comes to a close with the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx facing off in the finals, which begin on Thursday.
