Legendary NFL quarterback and ESPN color commentator Troy Aikman has named Joe Burrow his MVP of the season after his sensational performance from this past week.
With the Cincinnati Bengals’ season on the line, Burrow completed 39-of-49 passes on 412 passing yards and four touchdowns to guide the team to a win over the Denver Broncos in a win that see’s them having a realistic path to making it into the playoffs.
Burrow has now thrown for at least 250 yards and three touchdowns in eight straight games with four consecutive wins in those outings, prompting MVP calls despite the Bengals’ record – mostly due to their defensive struggles.
Burrow’s impressive performances in recent weeks has seen his name be thrown into such conversations, alongside the likes of Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and Saquon Barkley, with Aikman stating on Monday Night Football: “If I had [an NFL MVP] vote, it would go to Joe Burrow.”
Dallas Cowboys’ superstar Micah Parsons has already agreed with those sentiments, as he posted on X: “If Joe Burrow takes this team to the playoffs, I dont even think it should be in question whos MVP! God damm! Best in the world right now!”
Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor had also touched on the subject after their win over the Broncos, as he stated: I dont know that anybody can stand on the field and watch Joe Burrow and not say that hes the best player in the world. I would not trade Joe Burrow for any player in the universe, and to me, thats MVP to me.
The Bengals quarterback leads the league with 4,641 passing yards, over 500 more than any other player, with his 42 touchdowns also being the most in the NFL – while throwing just eight interceptions.
The Bengals being in playoff contention going into the last game of the season didn’t look like something that would have been possible after the first six weeks, limping to a 1-5 record with their defense among the worst in the league. To make the postseason in the season finale, they must defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers while needing the Kansas City Chiefs to beat the Broncos.
