After retired NFL head coach Bill Belichick called out Haason Reddick for a blown coverage against New England, the Jets linebacker retaliated by roasting the ex-Patriots coach online.
Reddick made his highly anticipated and controversial return to the field against the Patriots after a prolonged contract holdout kept him out of the first seven weeks of the season. In his comeback game, Reddick played a subtle 26 snaps, a clear sign the Jets are easing him back into action.
Though reporters pushed for details on the contract holdout, Reddick opted to stay tight-lipped, offering no comments on his absence. Belichick didnt shy away from giving his analysis, voicing criticism of Reddicks performance, with earned laughs from the cast of the Pat McAfee Show. “Just a lot of mistakes by the Jets in that game yesterday,” he said.
“There were several drops in the game. Reddick came in the game and just ran by the quarterback multiple times. It created those scramble lanes that the Patriots took advantage of.”
As part of a Jets defense that allowed 111 rushing yards to the Patriots, Reddick saw Belichicks post-game comments that suggested he was partially to blame late in the game. The Patriots sealed their victory with a one-yard touchdown run from Rhamondre Stevenson, followed by a game-winning two-point conversion reception.
Reddick responded on X, calling Belichick jobless. “Aye, someone call Bill Belichick and give him a job. Seems like hes homie [is] bored and cant keep me out of his mouth. Come up for air, why dont ya.”
While Reddick may have expected Jets fans to take his side, the comment backfired with more criticism for the star linebacker. Jets fans voiced their frustrations, with one commenting, “Respectfully, please stop talking,” while another jabbed at his extended absence, noting, “You got more tweets than snaps played this season. Worry about the 2-6 team youre on.”
Belichicks recent Underdog sports deal also fueled fan responses, with one saying, “Bill is working and working hard, unlike you the last 7 weeks.” Another fan reminded Reddick of Belichicks enduring legacy, adding, “You sat half the season and are talking trash to a coach who will be remembered far longer than you will be alive.”
Reddicks contract began almost immediately after his Jets arrived from the Philadelphia Eagles in a trade. He requested another trade four months into his Jets tenure, signaling early friction that hadnt been resolved.
When the request went unfulfilled, Reddick ultimately held out, leaving his future with the team in question. During the holdout, Reddicks comments about keeping all options open regarding his career worried fans of uncertainty surrounding his commitment to New York.
“Whatever happens, I’m going to be happy. I’m going to give my all, no matter what. That’s just who I am as a person,” he said. “So no matter how it goes, how many years, I’m going to be here for however long I’m here for, and I’m going to give the team, the fans, everything that I have.
