The New York Jets home loss to the Denver Broncos was a frustrating one for the entire team – in a game that they had been heavily expected to win while seeing them struggle offensively.
The Jets appear to have one of the stronger offenses on paper in the entire league, with an improved offensive line and Aaron Rodgers returning to full health after missing all but four snaps of the 2023 season. The additions had seen emerging superstar Garrett Wilson atop of fantasy football owners wishlist with many expecting him to have a breakout season – but that hasn’t come to fruition so far.
Wilson has 191 yards and one touchdown, ranking 41st in receiving yards through four games with the camera panning to him looking frustrated on more than one occasion – with his latest words sending a clear message to the Jets’ offensive coaches.

When asked about the team’s offensive struggles, Wilson said: “I don’t think we do a lot of different stuff to be honest. When I watch football on Sundays I see a lot of teams who mix it up and stuff like that. I don’t feel like we do that.
“I think we know our identity. It’s just about going out and executing it or figuring out if it’s going to work. I don’t think we’re trying a lot of different things.
“I know, personally, my route tree hasn’t been what it has been the last two years as far as the stuff I’ve been running. It’s just about figuring out if it’s the right identity and whether it’s going to win games.”

Capable of being among the best receivers in the league, Wilson should be the clear-cut number one option for the Jets to throw to. However, Allen Lazard is the team’s leader in receiving yards, with the Jets scheming up plays for him on key third down situations rather than Wilson.
Intriguingly, Wilson’s route’s so far do look to be much more similar than in his first two years in the league – being stuck in one role rather than being moved around the offense as many would argue he should.
Advanced metrics also show that Wilson ranks eighth in the NFL in route win shares (getting open when running his route, 41.4%).
The Jets have also been named as a potential suitor for Davante Adams, Rodgers’ all-time favorite receiver and former teammate after he requested a trade away from the Las Vegas Raiders.
