Damian Lillard had an amusing trip down memory lane during the Milwaukee Bucks’ media day on Monday, as he was reminded of a viral moment involving rapper GloRilla from earlier this year. While fielding questions from reporters at Fiserv Forum, the Bucks’ new point guard was asked about the time GloRilla publicly expressed interest in him during NBA All-Star weekend in February.
Lillard, who couldn’t help but laugh at the question, was asked, “Are you giving that any kind of action?” to which he responded with good humor, making it clear there was nothing going on between him and the “Wanna Be” artist.
“I’m weak. That is hilarious,” Lillard said, chuckling. “Naw… you know, I keep my personal life personal and I let it be that. I respect her as an artist. We know each other. She’s an artist. I’m an artist. But as far as anything goes, it ain’t nothing going on. That’s what I can tell you.”
Lillard, who is not only a basketball star but also a rapper under the name Dame D.O.L.L.A., handled the lighthearted moment with ease. A Bucks employee overseeing the press conference also couldn’t help but laugh at the situation. Adding to the fun, one of the reporters rapped a lyric from GloRilla’s song “TGIF,” further highlighting the playful nature of the exchange.
The roots of the story trace back to the NBA All-Star festivities earlier in the year when GloRilla, whose real name is Gloria Hallelujah Woods, posted a photo with Lillard. The post quickly gained attention when she tweeted, “Whoever she is can’t whoop me so I really dgaf,” sparking buzz on social media about a potential romantic connection.
Lillard, who was named the MVP of the 2024 NBA All-Star Game, chose not to comment on the situation when asked by TMZ in March. Meanwhile, GloRilla coyly addressed the matter during an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast in April. When Sharpe asked her, “You shot with the most Steph Curry shot, did it go in?” referring to her pursuit of Lillard, she laughed and replied, “The half-court shot? At the end of the day, the day gon’ end.”
The timing of GloRilla’s interest came shortly after a significant change in Lillard’s personal life. The seven-time All-Star had filed for divorce from his wife, Kay’La, in October 2023, after two years of marriage. The couple, who were college sweethearts, share three children: 5-year-old Damian Jr. and 3-year-old twins, daughter Kali and son Kalii.
The divorce filing occurred less than a week after Lillard’s blockbuster trade from the Portland Trail Blazers to the Milwaukee Bucks, ending his 11-year stint in Portland.
In the months following their split, Kay’La even weighed in on the viral moment with GloRilla. In April, after the rapper was arrested for a DUI in Gwinnett County, Georgia, Kay’La poked fun at the situation by re-sharing GloRilla’s mugshot with the caption, “FreeGloLillard,” along with a laughing emoji and the hashtag “sister wife,” showing that she wasn’t taking the matter too seriously.
While the playful media day moment gave fans something to laugh about, Lillard is focused on his new chapter with the Milwaukee Bucks. The team is gearing up for their season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers on October 23, and with Lillard now paired alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo, expectations for the Bucks are sky-high.
