Chiefs star Travis Kelce has officially expanded into the world of film production, and his debut project has already made waves in Hollywood. Kelce served as executive producer for My Dead Friend Zoe, a dark comedy centered on military themes, which recently premiered at the Woodstock Film Festival to high praise.
The film took home the Grand Jury prize for Best Feature Narrative and was also awarded the Haskell Wexler Award for Best Cinematography, highlighting its impressive visual storytelling.
The Woodstock Film Festival judges described the film as offering “a standout central performance that delves into the darkness of the human psyche,” emphasizing the film’s exploration of emotional depth. My Dead Friend Zoe follows a complex story about a female Afghanistan war veteran who, while staying at her family’s lake house, confronts unresolved conflicts with her Vietnam veteran grandfather and experiences an enigmatic relationship with her deceased Army friend.
Kelce’s involvement in the project has brought it significant attention and sparked anticipation for its release on February 28, 2025, shortly after Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome.

According to writer and director Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, Kelce’s connection to the film stemmed from his strong support for veterans and military issues. Two of the film’s producers connected with someone on Kelce’s team and arranged to send him the script, given the story’s military-centric theme. Kelce, inspired by the narrative, agreed to back the project, a decision Hausmann-Stokes described as “surreal.”
“He’s really brought so much additional attention,” Hausmann-Stokes shared with ScreenRant. “Ultimately, I want people to enjoy this film, but more importantly, I want it to affect change. Thanks to Travis, the film has gained exposure that could reach a veteran who needs that nudge to start talking about their experiences. Travis has given us this incredible wave of energy and exposure, and we’re thrilled to have him.”
Kelce’s film venture follows his recent rise in fame, propelled not only by his NFL success as one of the league’s top tight ends but also by his high-profile relationship with Taylor Swift.
In addition to his work in film, Kelce has dabbled in acting with a role in the series Grotesquerie and as host of Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity?. He’s also set to appear in Happy Gilmore 2, a sequel to the Adam Sandler comedy classic.
For now, though, Kelce remains focused on the field, as his 6-0 Chiefs gear up for their next matchup against the Raiders.
However, his role in My Dead Friend Zoe showcases a new dimension of Kelce’s talents, underscoring his commitment to impactful storytelling and the military community.
