Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift were in attendance on Monday night to watch the New York Yankees defeat the Cleveland Guardians 5-2 in Game 1 of the 2024 ALCS.
When Yankees outfielder Juan Soto homered in the third inning, both Kelce and Swift were captured celebrating — albeit tepidly — as New York took the league.
Kelce was born in Westlake, Ohio, and attended Cleveland Heights High School. He was not pictured wearing any Cleveland merchandise on Monday.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end even threw the first pitch out at a Guardians game last July, though he badly spiked this throw, causing Cleveland player Shane Bieber to jump out of the way.

What baseball team does Kelce support? Yahoo’s Jordan Shusterman pointed out that the NFL star claimed allegiance to both New York and Cleveland. In 2010, he tweeted “and my #Yankees lost…smh hats off to the #rangers though, but I’m hurttin’ tonight!!!” following New York’s playoff defeat.
In 2011, he commended Cleveland ace Justin Masterson on X, posting: “Master just might be the next Cy Young winner for the #Tribe… hopefully, we don’t trade him away like the last two we had…” (referencing the trades of Cliff Lee and C.C. Sabathia).
Kelce was asked in June whether he would support the Guardians or the local Kansas City Royals should they face off in the American League playoffs. “I’ve been to more playoff Cleveland Guardian games, those games are unbelievably electric,” he said.

“Back in 2015, when the Royals won (the World Series), those games were every bit as electric. My hometown team, though, I’m still a huge Guards fan.”
Kelce’s quarterback Patrick Mahomes has taken to the Kansas City Royals. He tweeted his support for his adopted team earlier in the 2024 MLB postseason.
In January of 2024, Kelce discussed how he originally wanted to be drafted by the Cleveland Browns: “I think I cried in [former Browns coach Rob] Chudzinski’s face when I was getting drafted, to like, ‘Please let me ******* play for Cleveland.'”

“It was like one of my dreams to play for the Browns,” he continued. “Being a sports fan in Cleveland, you can’t not dream about playing for all three of the Cleveland sports teams, let alone the Browns.
“[Chudzinski] and coach Jon Embree, tight end coach down in Miami right now. I was crying in front of both, which is probably why they didn’t draft me. ‘This dude is way too soft. He’s a mess right now.'”
Soto’s home run and six dominant innings from Yankees starter Carlos Rodon carried New York to a comfortable 5-2 victory. The series will resume at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night for Game 2.
