Travis Hunter is officially taking his talents to the next level after Colorado’s two-way superstar announced that he is “definitely” entering his name in the 2025 NFL Draft.

While speaking to reporters on Thursday, Hunter was asked if his departure to the NFL following the 2024-25 campaign is a foregone conclusion. “That’s definitely for sure,” he replied per ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.

Hunter additionally asserted that he still plans to play on offense and defense in the NFL – a feat that few others have managed to accomplish at the professional level. Over 10 games for the Buffaloes this season, the star wideout has reeled in 74 receptions for 911 yards and 10 total touchdowns while additionally recording 23 tackles, a forced fumble and three interceptions as a cornerback.

As of writing, Hunter boasts the best odds to be crowned the 2024 Heisman winner at -400, narrowly edging out Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty (+375), Miami’s Cam Ward (+1200) and Indiana’s Kurtis Rourke (+2500), per ESPNBet. Despite continuing to excel on both sides of the ball throughout his Heisman campaign, several notable critics – including former All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman – have argued that the 21-year-old won’t be able to play multiple positions in the NFL.

Addressing the pushback he’s faced in regards to playing wide receiver and cornerback at the professional level, Hunter told Yahoo Sports’ Caroline Fenton: “I mean there’s a lot of people been telling me that since I’ve been playing it. I’m just gonna continue to prove them wrong…It’s a lot of haters, even the top dogs hating on me.”

Back in September, Hunter expressed a similar sentiment during a sit down with Forbes, stating: “My goal is to continue to be a two-way player. If given the opportunity, I’d strive to continue making an impact on both ends of the field, helping my team wherever they need me most.

“One of my greatest strengths is my versatility as a player, and I love the challenge of learning and excelling in both roles and pushing my limits.”

The dominant all-around performance from Hunter this season has most pundits penciling him in as a top-10 selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, with some even speculating that he could be picked first overall. Unfortunately for him, it appears as though the 6-5 Denver Broncos – his ideal landing spot in the league – will not be picking high enough to acquire his talents.

During an appearance on the ‘Deestroying Podcast,’ Hunter expressed a strong desire to remain in Denver, which he argued is home to some of the best fans in the world. “The fan base here is pretty good. It’s probably one of the best fan bases. I never feel uncomfortable or not safe,” he said last month.

“I wish I could go to the Broncos just to stay in Colorado just ‘cuz so many people welcomed us with open arms and they showed us love that we would never would have gotten in a different spot.”
