After being held without a catch in Sunday’s 20-17 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley sounded off about the way he’s been used through the first few weeks of the season.

Ridley expressed his frustration with how it took until the fourth quarter for him to be targeted consistently in Sunday’s game:

Ridley was targeted eight times by Titans second-year quarterback Will Levis, who threw for just 95 yards on 16-of-27 passing with a touchdown and an interception in Sunday’s loss. The sixth-year receiver carried the ball once for nine yards for his only touch of the game.

Ridley admitted that he needs to make more of an impact consistently, but he maintained that he needs to be more involved in the passing attack early in games.

“It is what it is. I sucked today and gotta be better, but I gotta get the ball a little earlier in the game so I can be in the game and here with the team so I can play well also,” he said.

The 29-year-old has just nine catches for 141 yards and a touchdown plus a rushing score through the first five games of the season.

He’s in his first year in Tennessee after signing a four-year, $92 million deal in the offseason following an impressive 2023 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars in which he produced 76 catches for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns.

Levis’ subpar quarterback play has obviously hindered Ridley’s ability to produce consistently for the Titans, but the veteran wideout also needs to do more to elevate the signal-caller as he continues to get acclimated to the NFL.

Ridley will be seeking a better performance when the 1-4 Titans return to action next Sunday against the Buffalo Bills (3-2).
