Texas will stick with Quinn Ewers at quarterback after benching him in the second quarter of its nightmare first half against Georgia.
Ewers struggled mightily in the game with Georgia’s defensive line dominating Texas with five sacks in the first and behind 20-0 on the scoreboard. After Ewers’ continued three-and-outs, Sarkisian brought in Arch Manning for a drive as he moved the offense downfield before being strip-sacked before half-time.
Sarkisian oped to bring Ewers back into the game in the second, with the potential first-round draft pick improving while throwing for two touchdowns and 211 yards – but it was not enough to keep up with Georgia as they fell to a 30-15 defeat.

Sarkisian has further explained his decision to bench Ewers in the game, while confirming that the senior will remain their starting quarterback despite Manning’s emergence.
“I was just trying to settle Quinn down a little bit, try to give us a little bit of a spark,” Sarkisian said after the game. “We’ve got to get out of our own way. We’re not playing very good as a unit right now. Thank God our defense is putting out some fires for us.”
He added: “Quinn’s our starting quarterback. I appreciate the fact that we’re fortunate enough to have a backup like Arch that can come into the game and provide a spark in some sense, but at the end of the day, Quinn’s our starter.”

Despite his poor first-half against Georgia, Ewers is still in the running to be the first ovall pick in the NFL Draft, alongside the likes of Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter and Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck.
Earlier this month, Manning started two games with Ewers being ruled out with an abdominal injury as he showed why he came into college football with so much hype around him. He completed 70 percent of his passes for 12 touchdowns to just two interceptions – leading the Longhorns to two impressive wins leaving some fans questioning whether he should be starting ahead of Ewers.
But Sarkisian still clearly has no intention of making a move, with Texas hoping to bounce back after falling to fifth in the rankings this week, set to face Vanderbilt on Saturday.
Oregon of the Big 10 is now the number-one seed, with quarterback Dillon Gabriel in the running for the Heisman Trophy.
