Justin Fields is touch-and-go for the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ “Monday Night Football” clash with the New York Giants, with staunch defender Terry Bradshaw learning the news live on FOX.
Bradshaw was one of Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin’s biggest critics after he decided to drop Fields for Russell Wilson once the veteran NFL quarterback had recovered from a calf injury sustained in training camp. At the time, Fields had helped Pittsburgh to a 4-2 winning start but was swapped out for the blowout win over the New York Jets last weekend.
Heading into Monday’s game with the Giants, Wilson will be handed more game time to get up to speed, with Fields touch-and-go with a hamstring tweak. “Just got off the phone with Mike Tomlin. He said Justin Fields actually tweaked his hamstring late this week,” FOX NFL Sunday host Jay Glazer revealed, with Fields defender Bradshaw on the panel.
“Doesn’t think he’s going to be able to go tomorrow night. He’s not sure yet. Probably going to have to get an MRI after the game, so it’s going to be all Russell Wilson. But this was a game that they’re kind of hoping to use that two-headed quarterback duo out there, but not really going to be able to do it now because of the hamstring.”

Internally, Tomlin’s decision at quarterback is being supported by both Fields and Wilson, whose impacts have been felt across the Steelers roster. “Between Russ and Justin, they’ve always supported each other,” Steelers defensive lineman Cam Heyward told Not Just Football.
“The media and people outside the locker room have pitted these guys against each other. They’ve been very supporting of each other, and they’ve made the team the team.
“That’s all that’s mattered, and I’m appreciative of it. It doesn’t bring any extra drama. They just come in for business and they both come in ready to perform.”

Wilson has also praised the young quarterback and hailed his obvious football talent. Fields was traded to Pittsburgh in the offseason following a tough time in Chicago with the Bears, where he was originally drafted back in 2021.
“Yeah, I think, first of all, Justin [Fields is] such a tremendous football player,” Wilson told the media on Thursday. “For us, it’s really about us winning, and him getting in there and playing ball [and] when and if he does, I know he’ll do great.
“There’s always the different things we talk about. How he gets in there, how we do this, how we do that, if that ever comes up. But I just think the biggest thing is just, it’s all about us together. That’s really how I think about it.”
