On Sunday night, after Swift and Post Malone won the award for Best Video for their collaboration, “Fortnight,” the MTV broadcast played a prerecorded acceptance speech from Swift. In the clip, the “Lover” singer said, “I am coming to you from the Eras Tour, and I’m so sad that I can’t be with you tonight.”
The footage aired in the evening in the United Kingdom, where the ceremony was held, but it was still the afternoon in Kansas City, Missouri, where Swift was very much present at Arrowhead Stadium, cheering on Kelce and the Chiefs in their game against the Denver Broncos.
Fans quickly noticed the amusing contrast and took to social media to share their reactions. One Swiftie posted a photo of Swift arriving at the stadium in a golf cart with her mother, Andrea Swift, captioning it, “‘I’m so sad I can’t be with you tonight’ THIS LIAR.” Another fan humorously quipped, “Calling in sick at work does not work when you’re TAYLOR SWIFT.”
The jokes kept coming, with another fan posting, “‘Coming from the Eras Tour’? More like coming from in my Chiefs era tour.”
