Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry exited Sunday night’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers with a left ankle sprain, casting a shadow over the team’s 112–104 loss. The injury occurred in the fourth quarter after Curry had already returned to the court following a similar incident earlier in the game.
Though he initially appeared ready to push through, a second tweak of the ankle sidelined him for the remainder of the contest.
After the game, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr addressed Curry’s condition, reassuring fans but acknowledging the need for caution. “He’s doing okay,” Kerr said. “He described it as ‘mild’ or ‘moderate’—he’s obviously sprained that ankle many times before. He doesn’t think it’s too bad, but obviously, it’s a concern.” Kerr also confirmed that Curry would undergo an MRI to assess the injury further.
Curry’s injury disrupts what had been a strong start to the 2024–25 season for Golden State, who opened with decisive wins over the Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz.

In his 27 minutes on the floor against the Clippers, Curry contributed 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting, along with six assists and four rebounds. His absence in the game’s final moments made a noticeable difference, as the Warriors struggled to close the gap.
The Warriors, now 2–1, face a quick turnaround with a home game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night at Chase Center.
Whether Curry will be available remains to be seen, but his teammates will likely need to adjust their game plan if he is sidelined.
The Warriors and their fans hope the injury proves minor, given Curry’s history with ankle issues. As they await MRI results, Golden State’s season opener momentum hangs in the balance, with Curry’s availability crucial to sustaining the team’s early success.
