Travis Hunter’s friend and Colorado teammate, Shedeur Sanders, has launched a counter-offensive on people targeting the future NFL star’s fiancee following his Heisman Trophy win.

Hunter, 21, and his fiancee, Leanne Lenee, have been dating for around five years and engaged last year. They plan to officially marry in May 2025. However, the couple has come under fire following Hunter’s recent Heisman Trophy win.

Social media users, celebrities, and athletes have all weighed in on their relationship, highlighting issues they have with Lenee. Incidents such as Lenee appearing unhappy and refusing to kiss Hunter following the Buffaloes’ final home game of the 2024 season against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, a blowout 52-0 win, attracted attention.

How they met also raised questions, with Lenee revealing that Hunter first reached out to her when he had a girlfriend and the model admitting he wasn’t her type. This led to people questioning her authenticity. At an Adidas event, Lenee also appeared to have an attitude as her fiance fulfilled his duties, taking photos and signing autographs.

Hunter has publicly defended Lenee on his streams, telling people to mind their own business, but it appeared to become too much in recent days. He deactivated his Instagram account after some suggested Lenee hadn’t been faithful during their relationship.

Hunter’s friend and Colorado teammate, Sanders, has defended him and accused those talking about his pal’s relationship of clout chasing for clicks. “All y’all athletes, entertainers, artist etc if y’all genuine trying to holla at trav y’all know how to get in touch with him or someone around,” Sanders, the son of NFL legend and Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders, said. “At this point y’all just posting for the algorithm trying to look cool.”

Deion Sanders has also backed Hunter ahead of the Buffs’ Bowl game against the BYU Cougars, which will be the two-way superstar’s final game in college football before heading to the NFL next April as a top first-round draft pick.

“Everything is great, he has the Heisman Trophy at the crib,” Sanders said. “He’s projected to be the first or second pick, no later than the third. I don’t know where all the bulljunk comes in at. I think it’s all a blessing, the things you may count as stressing is still a blessing.

“I think he’s heading in the right direction. He loves the game of football. I’m always focused on the positives, not the negatives. It’s so easy to see the negative when the positive is right there in front of you.

“I love this young man, I love what he stands for. I love him like he’s a son. He’s exceeded everything we’ve asked of him academically as well as athletically.”
