One of the top priorities for the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason was to sign superstar edge rusher Maxx Crosby to a contract extension, as the four-time Pro Bowler didn’t have any guaranteed money left on his deal and was deserving of a raise.
Well, the Raiders have gotten it done. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Crosby is signing a three-year, $106.5 million extension that includes $91.5 million guaranteed.
“Las Vegas Raiders are signing Pro Bowl DE Maxx Crosby to a three-year, $106.5 million extension that includes $91.5 guaranteed, making him the highest paid non-quarterback in NFL history, per sources,” Schefter wrote.
The $35.5 million annual average is $12 million more than what Crosby was making annually on his previous deal. According to Over the Cap, Crosby’s contract extension has the highest annual average of any EDGE in the NFL.
There had been serious doubts about Crosby’s future with the Raiders after he expressed frustration with the constant losing, turnover and lack of guaranteed money on his contract.
However, Crosby also recently expressed optimism with the direction the franchise was headed after the hires of head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek, giving a glimmer of hope that he’d stay.
This new deal will ensure that Crosby isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, although the Raiders must improve their roster if they want to avoid him possibly demanding a trade at some point down the road.
