The Pittsburgh Steelers have issued a statement about Donald Trump’s attendance at Acrisure Stadium.

The Republican presidential candidate has been ramping up his election campaign in the critical state of Pennsylvania. Trump held a rally in the state this weekend and will be in attendance to watch the Steelers take on the New York Jets on Sunday Night Football.

Following the attempted assassination of the former president in Pennsylvania earlier this year, where Trump was shot in the ear at a rally, and the general protective measure taken with such a high-profile and public figure guest, the Steelers have released a statement to fans about his expected attendance and affect it will have on the match-going fans.

The statement read: “With former President Trump expected to attend Sunday night’s game as a guest of an individual suite holder, we are working with Secret Service and local authorities to ensure the safety and security of all our fans. As always, we will work to make the fan experience the same as it always is for every Steelers’ home game at Acrisure Stadium.

“We encourage fans to arrive early to the parking lots and to the gates so that they can enjoy our pregame experience and our celebrations throughout the game that will honor the 50th anniversary of our Super Bowl IX team.”

Pittsburgh will be commemorating the first franchise Super Bowl-winning team during the contest which is sure to be a hotly-anticipated game. A major discussion point from the former president’s perspective will surround where he sits inside the stadium. Trump and Jets owner Woody Johnson are well-known friends. While Steelers owners, the Rooney family, have deep democrat links, with Art II a significant donor and friend to Joe Biden.

Antonio Brown

Antonio Brown spoke at Trump’s Pennsylvania rally

One star who doesn’t have conflicting views is former Steelers star Antonio Brown, who was a speaker at Trump’s rally this weekend. During his speech, Brown expressed his love and gratitude to the Republican while slamming Democrat duo Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. “And by the way Tampon Tim Walz, he isn’t a real football coach,” Brown said. “He could never guard me.”

The Steelers are set to hand Russell Wilson his first start of the season as he was named starter in place of Justin Fields. Wilson joined the Steelers in the off-season having spent the last two seasons with the Denver Broncos. The veteran was originally named as the starter at the beginning of the campaign, but injury ruled him out of week one action and Fields subsequently replaced him for the opening games.

Pittsburgh enter the game with a 4-2 record so far this season following their 32-13 demolition of the Las Vegas Raiders in week six. The Jets enter the matchup in contrasting form, dropping to a 2-4 record and on a run of three consecutive defeats.
