Kansas City Chiefs are on red alert as rumors circulate regarding another top NFL wide receiver who is possibly available for a trade. This time it’s Cooper Kupp.
Three-time Super Bowl champ Patrick Mahomes needs help because of injuries to three Chiefs WRs. Marquise Brown is out of action with a left shoulder issue, Rashee Rice sustained a season-ending knee injury, and JuJu Smith-Schuster grapples with a right hamstring problem.
Though the Chiefs are enjoying a winning run, they are light in a key role and a trade before the Nov. 5 deadline ahead of critical games against the Las Vegas Raiders on Oct. 27 and Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Nov. 4. increasingly appears to be a necessity. Among prospective options on the trade market for the Chiefs are Diontae Johnson from the Carolina Panthers and Darius Slayton from the New York Giants, The Athletic reported Monday.

It turns out Kupp is another player they could enquire about with the LA Rams even “open to taking on some salary to get a trade done,” The Athletic claimed Tuesday. “I do think Cooper Kupp is on the trade block,” the outlet’s senior NFL insider Dianna Russini said on the Scoop City show.
The MVP from the 2021 Super Bowl, Kupp’s 2,425 receiving yards in the season and postseason combined that year set an NFL record. He’s only played twice this season because of an ankle injury but is set to return imminently. The Rams, Russini said, have spoken to multiple teams about a potential trade.
“I think the Rams are definitely taking calls on Cooper Kupp,” Russini said. “I think there are … some teams toying with that, and the Rams are open to it, so we’ll see if they’ll be able to make a deal there.”

The Chiefs would need to act quickly to secure the trade, though, as they could face stiff competition from the Bucs and Pittsburgh Steelers — both of which are also in desperate need of a wide receiver who can slot seamlessly into a system to contribute straight away.
To make a deal happen, according to Russini on X, the Rams “have indicated a willingness to take on some of the 2024 salary and are seeking a second-round pick.” Kupp is set to make $9.1 million guaranteed this season.
Kansas City has already missed out on a top wide receiver during the 2024 campaign with Davante Adams being traded by the Las Vegas Raiders to the New York Jets. The Chiefs were not on Adams’ list of preferred destinations, though.
