Pat McAfee was left with an egg on his face after he and New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers were caught discussing a “made-up” NFL statistic on the former’s ESPN show.
On Tuesday, Rodgers made his annual appearance on the ‘Pat McAfee Show,’ during which the four-time MVP and ex-NFL punter discussed the latest events that transpired across the league. Among the topics discussed was Lions quarterback Jared Goff’s five-interception performance in Detroit’s 26-23 win over the Houston Texans Sunday night.
The Lions victory was all the more impressive considering an alleged stat that began making the rounds on social media during the game. Taking to X, professional Madden gamer Civ wrote: “This is now Jared Goff’s 7TH career game with at least 4 interceptions. His record in those games? 6-0.”

Not long after the game ended, Civ additionally tweeted, “Jared Goff moves to 7-0 in games with at least 4 interceptions. He had the Texans RIGHT where he wanted them. Goff continues to strengthen his argument as front runner in the MVP Race.”
Among the many people who caught wind of Goff’s improbable record was Rodgers. While speaking on the ‘Pat McAfee Show,’ he brought up the statistic, stating: “The amazing stat, though, is this a true stat, that he’s done four or more picks seven times and won every single one of those games?”
McAfee promptly confirmed the stat to the true, as ESPN personality Boston Connor chimed in, “Yep, 7 and 0.” Rodgers seemingly couldn’t believe what he was hearing, replying: “That’s wild.”

Unfortunately for McAfee and Co., the statistic was actually fabricated by Civ himself. One day after his X post went viral, he wrote: “10,000 Likes on a Tweet I made up is objectively hilarious.” The original tweet in question, meanwhile, has been hit with a community note that reads, “Jared Goff has thrown 4+ interceptions in only two games of his NFL career. He is 1-1 in those games.”
It didn’t take long for Civ to rub his successful ruse in McAfee’s face. Sharing the clip of the 37-year-old and Rodgers discussing the made-up stat, he wrote: “If you’ve ever wondered how easy it is to spread fake information I made this stat up while laying in bed at halftime of the game.”
Upon realizing his mistake, McAfee could only manage to form a dejected two-word response. “Oh no,” he commented under the post.
Seemingly feeling some regret for tricking the world, Civ extended an olive branch to McAfee in an attempt to make things right. “Pat, I’m sorry. You & the Progrum were never meant to get caught up in this,” he said. “With that being said, please consider turning on my notifications because I have some new stats and potential breaking stories dropping Sunday.”
