The Minnesota Vikings have brought in a new left tackle after Christian Darrisaw’s season-ending injury.

Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the Vikings acquired Cam Robinson from the Jacksonville Jaguars in return for draft pick compensation.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Vikings also received a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick that can go away based on playtime while the Jaguars received a conditional 2026 fifth-round pick that can become a fourth-round pick based on Robinson’s playtime.

Darrisaw has been one of the best tackles in the league this year with an 81.4 PFF grade, ranking 10th among tackles. He suffered a torn ACL and MCL against the Los Angeles Rams last week.

While Robinson might not be at the same level as Darrisaw, the Vikings needed a proven starter to fill in for the remainder of the season, and they got that in Robinson.

The former second-round pick out of Alabama has 91 starts under his belt and stands at 6’6″, 335 pounds, more than enough size to help Minnesota’s offensive line protect Sam Darnold under center.

Heading into the Jaguars’ matchup with the Green Bay Packers this week, Jacksonville opted to bench Robinson in favor of Walker Little despite Robinson clearing concussion protocols. It was the first time he had been benched while healthy during his time with the team.

Rapoport noted that it’s somewhat rare to see left tackle moved halfway through the season, but after a 2-6 start to the season, the Jaguars are looking to pick up some future assets as their playoff hopes have dwindled significantly at this point.

Robinson is in the third year of a three-year, $54 million contract and will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. His base salary for the 2024 season is $16.250 million, and ESPN’s Field Yates reported that Jacksonville “may well have had to eat some of it” to get the deal done.

With the addition of Robinson, the Vikings will look to continue what has been a strong start to the season. Minnesota went into its Week 6 bye week undefeated but has since dropped back-to-back games against the Detroit Lions and Rams. The Vikings have a chance to get back on track this week against the Indianapolis Colts.
